You see, I'm a licensed financial professional. I have a degree in Business Finance. I’m a professional speaker and I have written several books. But even with all of my degrees, certifications and accolades I struggled with how to handle money.
Growing up no one taught me about money. My parents, the schools, my community. No one. I had to learn on my own and everything that I heard about money was negative, “the love of money is the root of all evil, money doesn’t grow on trees, put that back we can’t afford it”. Just a whole bunch of negative things.
So after graduating from college and eventually starting my own mortgage business I thought that I had arrived!!!!
Wrong…. Guess why? The market crashed in 2008 and I lost everything.. I didn’t understand about diversifying your portfolio or the power of leverage. I thought that I had to fund everything out of my own pockets.
WOW was I wrong. What I learned through all of my trial, errors and mistakes is that wealthy people grow their money by using other people’s money. This my dear is leverage.
